PUPPY CLASSES - under 20 weeks

For the last 10 years we have been training puppies in the local area. The global pandemic  was a huge challenge for everyone, but taught us a lot – online classes worked to help owners get a head start with their training before we met in person.

We found that puppies had grasped the basics much more easily whilst being taught at home with fewer distractions, owners already had much more control when they joined the class and puppies were more interested in learning than doing their own thing. But we still needed to meet up in a class situation to put these new skills into practise and introduce the new distractions of other puppy’s and how to socialise correctly.

This year, we are now offering the ‘best of both’!  Our new course starts off with remote home learning, we can also start teaching puppies early, as soon as you get them home the training can begin,  (around 8.5 weeks of age is perfect).  This sets you up to succeed, in avoiding common pitfalls or just muddling through waiting for classes to start.

During weeks 1-3,  we cover everything from the first few weeks and settling them in to toileting training, learning to settle, to be alone, how to create a suitable routine with lots of rest and sleeping at night. We will discuss how dogs learn and how to expose them to new experiences for a positive outcome, we will introduce the collar or harness and lead, grooming tools and safe play.

By the time the practical classroom sessions come round your pup has the foundation learning in place to really hit the ground running.  Then, during weeks 4-6 you will be ready to train useful behaviours such as walking on lead, coming when called, sit, down, stay, leave it, drop and bed, all whilst learning appropriate social skills around others.
