BEHAVIOURAL CONSULTATIONS

Our consultation package has been specifically created, to help both you and your dog as quickly and effectively as possible. I understand that both well-established and newly emerging problems can be very stressful, so I ensure you have access to me at key points along the journey. The main feature of the package includes opportunities to schedule an advice call, a face-to-face meeting and the all-important follow up. With over 20 years of experience, I have worked incredibly hard to gain my reputation and are registered with the APTC, APBC and the APDT.

Training and behavioural needs can vary widely in their complexity and intensity. No two dogs are the same, some experience multiple issues, where as others may just need to focus on one problem.

What ever you are experiencing with your dog, I'm here to help.

  • All behaviour cases must be on veterinary referral, as many  behaviour problems may be related to past or present medical conditions.

  • Referral from the veterinary surgeon also enables you to feel confident that I've been recommended based on my experience, qualifications and reputation.

  • Failure to ensure that the animal is healthy may lead to behavioural misdiagnosis, welfare implications and unnecessary expense. It is  therefore advisable to contact your veterinary surgeon to discuss your pet's behavioural problems and the appropriateness of a referral. Your vet can then contact me directly by sending the completed Referral Form found below. Alternatively, please contact us to discuss your needs and we can then help you to arrange the referral.

1. The First Step… fill out the form / book the advice call / send download file to vets / pay the deposit

After contacting me, I require a form which covers background, context, and a history of the problem. There will be some routine questions about diet, exercise and who might live with you and your dog.

This form is concise and will help focus your answers. Please download it from the form section below before emailing it back.

I will also ask you to arrange a referral from your vet, which includes details of your dog’s clinical history. Again, please download it from the links below.

The respective cost of a consultation package can very often be claimed via your insurance company. Please check the details of your own Insurance policy.

To secure your advice call, a deposit of £90 will be invoiced and will require payment prior to the call itself. If you schedule a full consultation and practical session (depending on the issue and advice given), the deposit will be redeemed against the full consultation cost of £395, leaving a remaining payment of £305 again due prior to our meeting.

The Advice Call – 1 hour

  • I endeavor to arrange this within 2 weeks of your inquiry. Whilst a full diagnosis cannot be made, I will offer some valuable ‘triage’ advice. Common behavioural issues can immediately be improved by a change in the management of the dog and our reactions to these problems. Whilst this is not going to ‘cure’ the issue, we will work together to prevent the dog from practicing the problem, this is the first step to changing your dog’s behaviour.

  • I will also help you understand the ‘why is my dog doing this’ question. Behaviour is communication, by understanding your dog’s motivation to perform the problem behaviour, we are better placed to react differently and help improve things.

  • You will receive basic instructions and diagrams to illustrate some of the topics discussed.

2. Following On… arrange the face to face consultation / pay the relevant fee

Face to Face Meeting - 1.5 hours

typically organised within 2-4 weeks of the advice call (home visit, zoom call, secure field – depending on issue)

  • With the initial phone call, behaviour and clinical history taken care of, this is our opportunity to meet you and your dog. I will be observing your dog’s general behaviour, how he or she reacts to everyday life, their body language, communication style and motivation levels.  This will help me make a diagnosis of the problem and plan a training programme to suit your individual dog. You will be shown some basic techniques and exercises to begin your training journey, I will also ensure you are better equipped to succeed in improving your dog’s behaviour.

  • Within one week you can expect your report and further training instructions.

  • I will contact your vet to summarise our plan, it is important we keep your vet informed. In some cases, we need to refer back to them if we suspect pain or a medical component is a contributing factor, and request further advice (for example, anti-anxiety medication).

3. The Final Step… let's assess the improvements

The follow up - 1 hour - £60 per hour

organised 2-4 weeks after meeting (home visit, zoom call, secure field – depending on issue)

  • The follow up session is important; this allows me to assess how the training is progressing. I may want to adjust or amend certain aspects of the programme, or even refer things back to your vet. The main purpose however is to ensure the behavioral problems are improving and how we can look to progress things further.

  • At this point you may want to continue with your programme alone and just check in with an email or WhatsApp message for feedback, OR we may need to schedule some additional follow up training sessions (the number of these will vary between the individual dog and their specific problems). As an example, dog to dog reactivity typically requires 3-4 sessions whereas, separation anxiety cases may require the occasional email for support.

  • The consultation package includes 3 months email, text, phone support. This starts from the initial instruction.
